A stepper motor is a brushless DC motor with its rotation divided into an equal number of steps. It has multiple electromagnets arranged symmetrically around the rotor. Every time the electromagnets receive a specific sequence of impulses, the rotor changes its position within a fixed interval.
The stepper motor can run both clockwise and counterclockwise and it offers great precision of rotation and a configurable number of steps to run.
A Switec stepper is a low power and quiet stepper motor that is usually used as an indicator drive for dashboard instrumentation and other indicator equipment. Because of the low current levels that it requires, it can be driven directly from the microcontroller, without an intermediate driver.
