3 Migrating an Application Firmware From AVR® and PIC16F/PIC18F Families to PIC32CM Family

This section explains the generic migration guidelines that are useful for embedded developers migrating application firmware developed for an 8-bit AVR or PIC16F/PIC18F microcontroller to the Arm® Cortex® M0+-based 32-bit PIC32CM microcontroller family. It also provides detailed information on the essential steps developers must consider for successfully migrating application firmware originally developed for an AVR or PIC16F/PIC18F microcontroller using Microchip’s development tools and software solutions to the PIC32CM family of microcontrollers. In this section, application firmware generated for the AVR128DA48 microcontroller using MCC and MPLAB® Tools for VS Code is used as a reference to explain the firmware migration steps.
