34.1 Overview
There are up to eight instances of the Serial Communication interface (SERCOM) peripheral.
Each SERCOM provides hardware support for one of the I2C, SPI, LIN, or USART protocols. It can operate as an I2C Host, I2C Client, SPI Host, SPI Client, LIN Host, LIN Client, or a USART. When a SERCOM is configured and enabled, the resources of that SERCOM are dedicated to the selected protocol and operational mode. It can use the internal generic clock or an external clock which allows it to operate in all Sleep modes.
