About the Contents in the Packages

An FMEDA provides the base FIT rate of the device. When the system integrator has selected the relevant diagnostic mechanisms in the FMEDA, it also provides the means to determine the residual FIT rate.

A safety manual describes, in detail, how to use the device from both a hardware and software perspective in a safety-critical application that must conform to the ISO 26262 safety standard.

A software diagnostic library implements a collection of the diagnostic mechanisms described in the safety manual. Diagnostic mechanisms not implemented by the library must, if required, be implemented by the system integrator. For more information about the diagnostic mechanisms implemented in the library, refer to the software diagnostics library release notes.

Refer to ISO 26262 Automotive Functional Safety - PIC16, PIC18 and AVR for more information about the functional safety packages.
