1 Compiler Advisor

Compiler Advisor displays a graphical comparison of sets, with carefully selected available compiler optimizations using project code.

This MPLAB X IDE plug-in can be useful in:

  • Providing information on available compiler optimizations for each compiler type (XC8, XC16, XC-DSC and XC32).
  • Demonstrating the advantages each optimization provides for a project in an easy-to-read, graphical form for program and data memory size.
  • Saving desired configurations.
  • Providing links to optimization definitions for each configuration.

Latest Compiler Support

Starting in July 2026 (MPLAB X IDE v6.35), the compilers listed below no longer require a license for PRO features.

Supported no-license compiler versions begin with:

  • XC8 v4.00, FuSa XC8 v3.19
  • XC-DSC v4.00, FuSa XC-DSC v3.39
  • XC32 v6.00, FuSa XC32 v5.19

So for these compiler versions and later, no compiler license is required for PRO features. However, for Functional Safety (FuSa) compilers, FuSa documentation must still be purchased.

For XC16 v2.10, FuSa XC16 v2.09, a universal license that will not expire will be made available free-of-charge in all Microchip accounts. This will provide access to PRO features.

Previous Compiler Support

Initial supported compiler versions:

  • MPLAB XC8 v2.30 and later
  • MPLAB XC16 v1.26 and later
  • MPLAB XC-DSC v3.00 and later
  • MPLAB XC32 v3.01 and later

Compilers with a PRO license will continue to work with Compiler Advisor. Free compilers with no PRO license will see a message recommending an update to the latest compiler version.

MPLAB X IDE and Device Support

All devices supported in MPLAB X IDE will be supported in Compiler Advisor. Updated Device Family Packs (DFPs) will add device support.
