3.7 IDE Integration
The MPLAB XC8 C Compiler may be integrated into and controlled from many Integrated Development Environments (IDEs), such as the MPLAB® X IDE and Microsoft® Visual Studio Code®. Use of an IDE provides a graphical user interface to control the compiler's many command-line options, as well as access to simulators and hardware debuggers that can execute the built code.
For installation of the MPLAB X IDE, and the creation and setup of projects to use the MPLAB XC8 C Compiler, see the MPLAB® X IDE User’s Guide for more information. For assistance with the MPLAB extensions for VS Code, see developerhelp.microchip.com/xwiki/bin/view/software-tools/ides/extensions/.
The MPLAB XC8 C Compiler tool may be integrated into and controlled from Microchip Studio to provide a GUI-based development of application code for the 8-bit AVR MCU families of devices. For installation of this IDE and the creation and setup of projects to use the MPLAB XC8 C Compiler, see the Microchip Studio 7 User Guide (DS50002718).
