1.1 Network Server Overview
Note: Only computers with operating systems that are supported by
MPLAB XC C compilers can be used to host the license server (see table below.)
| Platform* | Versions |
|---|---|
| Ubuntu (Linux®) | 20.04 and above |
| macOS® | 13.2 and above |
| Windows® | Windows 10 and above |
| * The server may also run on various other operating systems, such as other 64-bit Linux distributions, but they are not tested. | |
You only need one license server on a network and it can run on any suitable computer. The computer does not need to be running a server-grade OS.
The installer for the MPLAB XC license server may be found under the MPLAB XC Network Server Installer section of the MPLAB XC Compiler Licenses web page. To install the network license server, follow the steps in 2 Network License Server Installation.
Note: The installer does not start the server for you. See 3 Network License Server Startup.
Note: Microchip recommends that the network
(and/or the computer that the server is installed on) should not be exposed to the
public internet for safety/security reasons. If the customer wants to access the License
Server remotely, they must do so by using a VPN to connect to the network on which the
license server resides (typically the workplace network).
