2.1.3 Shunt Resistance

Since the shunt resistor is in series with the load, choose a resistance as low as possible. The voltage across the shunt resistor is directly proportional to its resistance, and the voltage drop lowers the voltage across the rest of the circuit. A lower voltage supply for the load leads to lower maximum power dissipation P_MAX for the load.
