Introduction

This document outlines how to get started with the PIC16 and PIC18 families of microcontrollers (MCUs) with a step-by-step process. It shows the reader where to find the information about the microcontrollers and how to use them. It then provides an example using MPLAB® X IDE and the Curiosity Nano platform to debug an application on a PIC18 microcontroller, and shows where to find more examples using a wide variety of both PIC16 and PIC18 microcontrollers. Although the process described here highlights a PIC18 device, it works equally well for PIC16 devices.
