1.2 WPC – Microchip Development Flow

The following is a typical and complete development flow for customers new to the WPC or new to designing WPC power transmitters with Qi 1.3 authentication.
  1. Vendors that wish to be a Power Transmitter Manufacturer (PTMFG) must become members of the WPC.
    1. Membership can be requested by submitting an email to membership@wirelesspowerconsortium.com
    2. The manufacturer has the option to become a regular member with committee and voting rights or an adopter member that only provides manufacturing rights and to participate in quarterly membership meetings.
    3. The manufacturer must specifically become a member of at least the Qi Ecosystem of the WPC.
  2. A PTMFG must obtain a Power Transmitter Manufacturers Code (PTMC):
  3. The PTMFG must sign the “WIRELESS POWER CONSORTIUM, INC. AUTHORIZED MANUFACTURER AGREEMENT”:
    1. A copy of the reference agreement is available here for review by the customer’s legal department.
    2. When ready to sign, request a “Company Specific Agreement” by submitting an email to the WPC at membership@wirelesspowerconsortium.com
    3. Include your company information, primary contact and signatory information.
  4. Then, the PTMFG expresses their intent to submit a product for certification to the WPC.
    1. The WPC will assign the PTMFG a unique Qi ID.
    2. It is possible to reserve a Qi ID by filling out the WPC “Reserving a Qi ID for Future Use” online form.
  5. The PTMFG also needs to send an email to the WPC membership@wirelesspowerconsortium.com stating they have selected Microchip as their WPC manufacturing Certificate Authority, listing the associated PTMC and Qi ID.
  6. The customer begins development work using the TA100.
  7. The customer opens a Microchip Sales Force support ticket for provisioned TA100 SSS.
  8. The customer provides the PTMC and Qi ID to Microchip through the support ticket system.
  9. Microchip validates the PTMC and Qi ID with the WPC to validate ownership.
  10. Once validated, Microchip generates the appropriate certificates and sets up a certificate signing request to sign the manufacturing certificate with the WPC Root CA.
    1. Currently, the signing ceremony only takes place on the third Thursday of every month. This is subject to change based on need, so check with the WPC for the next available ceremony.
    2. All the above information needs to be in place and provided to Microchip on the week prior (second Thursday of the month) to the signing ceremony.
  11. Once the signing ceremony is completed, Microchip will generate a limited number of validation units for the customer to evaluate. Evaluation consists of verifying that the units are programmed correctly and meet all requirements of the customer.
  12. The customer provides notification to Microchip that the validation units are accepted.
  13. The customer completes WPC certification and validation testing.
  14. Upon successful completion, the customer can request full production units and quantities.
