2 Achieving High-Level Safety Integrity
The standard for all electrical safety, IEC 61508, does not specify which approach to use to mitigate a non-tolerable risk. However, other related standards, such as the railway standards (EN 50129), describe three possible methods, which can be used in combination, to achieve fail-safety through design. As this is a general approach, it can be extrapolated to other electrical industries that require a high level of safety integrity.
