Introduction
This application note provides complete information on the power consumption profile of the
typical SAM R30 (Xplained Pro (XPro) and Module Xplained Pro)
Microchip Wireless (Mi-Wi) sleeping device under different application scenarios and Mi-Wi
network topologies. The profiling for different application scenarios for Mi-Wi network
topologies is listed as follows:
- Mi-Wi Mesh
- Mi-Wi Peer-to-Peer (P2P)
- Mi-Wi Star
This application note provides details on the following:
- To help the user to estimate the power consumption of the SAM R30 Mi-Wi sleeping device based on their specific application requirements
- The measurement setup in use (the customer can use the same setup) to perform similar measurements in the custom board for estimating the power consumption with the application firmware and optimizing the power consumption by modifying the application flow
- Fine tuning the Mi-Wi configuration parameters for optimizing the power consumption

- SAM R30 represents SAM R30 XPro and SAM R30 Module XPro unless specifically mentioned.
- The measurement procedure and scenarios are applicable for the SAM R21 device family and the same can be replicated for the profiling.
- As the SAM R21 and the SAM R30 are two different family of devices, the power consumption differs between these two devices.
