2.2 Mechanism of Operation
The high-side switch remains active until a capture event is detected. Capture events can be triggered by internal sources, such as dsPIC® comparators, or by external signals. This capability is facilitated by the versatile PCI blocks integrated within each PWM Generator module.
Upon detection of a capture event, the high-side switch is immediately turned off, and its on-time value is transferred to the low-side switch, ensuring synchronized and accurate operation.
Capture pulses are disregarded during dead-time intervals and while the low-side switch is active in order to prevent unintended switching, thereby enhancing operational safety.
If no capture event occurs within a cycle, the system maintains the minimum operating frequency as specified in the period register, ensuring consistent performance. This operation is illustrated in the figure below.
