Introduction
This functional safety manual discusses the requirements for the use of any of the devices listed on the title page as a Safety Element out of Context (SEooC) in functional safety-relevant applications requiring Automotive Safety Integrity Levels (ASILs), particularly with regard to ASIL compliance.
This document also provides guidelines for the recommended use of the devices in ASIL applications. It serves to guide system integrators through the steps necessary to integrate the product into their applications.
Integrators are required to fulfill all Assumptions of Use (AoU) listed in the Assumed Safety Goals section. They also need to comply with the selected diagnostic mechanisms, all applicable Hardware Safety Requirements (HWSR) and Software Safety Requirements (SWSR) listed in the System-level Hardware Safety Requirements and System-level Software Safety Requirements sections, respectively. The AoU, HWSR, and SWSR were assumed to be fulfilled when analyzing the failure rates and fault metrics in the provided Failure Modes Effects and Diagnostics Analysis (FMEDA).
If one or more AoU, HWSR, and SWSR are not fulfilled, then System Integrators must show that an alternative solution is similarly efficient concerning the safety requirement in question or show that the particular issue is irrelevant to their applications (e.g., module is not used). If these alternatives are not possible, the System Integrator shall estimate how much the failure rate increases and how much the fault metrics decrease due to the deviation. Otherwise, the FMEDA provided for these devices is not valid.
