2.2.1.1 Description

The demonstration board includes all the hardware needed to evaluate the metering solution, including some elements typical in a smart electricity meter: microcontroller, metering device, metrology sensor inputs filters, external memory, display and power supply. There are two versions:
  • PIC32CXMTSH-DB: Single phase and bi-phase (2 voltages and 2 currents) smart metering solution
  • PIC32CXMTC-DB: Three-phase smart metering solution, including neutral current measurement

The key part of the board is the microcontroller. It is based on high-performance Dual Core 32-bit Arm Cortex-M4F processors. The processors operate at a maximum speed of 200 MHz (Core 0) and 240 MHz (Core 1).

Typically, Core 1 runs the metrology library and Core 0 runs the user application and the communication protocols. This architecture allows the metrology computations to be performed in a separate flow, ensuring that the metrology library behavior is not affected by external interruptions or dependencies caused by the user application or the communication stacks.
