3.3 Control Board Configurations

The jumpers and 0Ω resistors on the PIC32MK MCM control board are highlighted in the following figure.

The jumpers and 0Ω resistors for the PIC32MKMCM Control Board are on the top layer as shown in the following figure:

QE Signal: Open Collector or Voltage Output

There are three QE circuits, each circuit is for one motor. In each QE circuit, there are two groups of jumpers: the pull-up jumpers and the pull-down jumpers. These are shown in the following table.

Table 3-1. Jumpers in the QE Circuits
QE Circuit Pull-Up Jumpers Pull-Down Jumpers
QE circuit 1 J31, J32, J33 J34, J35, J36
QE circuit 2 J25, J26, J27 J28, J29, J30
QE circuit 3 J37, J38, J39 J40, J41, J42

Each group of jumpers need to be shorted or left open to accommodate different types of QE signals. The details are shown in the following table.

Dual-Shunts or Single Shunt

Although the samples of phase currents and DC bus current are obtained from each driver board, the ADC accepts one and only one kind of sample, either phase currents or DC bus current.

The choice is made by the following 0Ω resistors:

  • R75, R130: R75 is the 0Ω resistor between the regulated phase-U current signal of motor #1 and the ADC pin. R130 is the 0Ω resistor between the regulated bus current signal of motor #1 and the same ADC pin. One and only one of R75 and R130 shall be mounted.
  • R77, R144: R77 is the 0Ω resistor between the regulated phase-V current signal of motor #1 and the ADC pin. R144 is the 0Ω resistor between the regulated bus current signal of motor #1 and the same ADC pin. One and only one of R77 and R144 shall be mounted.
  • R91, R154: R91 is the 0Ω resistor between the regulated phase-U current signal of motor #2 and the ADC pin. R154 is the 0Ω resistor between the regulated bus current signal of motor #2 and the same ADC pin. One and only one of R91 and R154 shall be mounted.
  • R93, R163: R93 is the 0Ω resistor between the regulated phase-V current signal of motor #2 and the ADC pin. R163 is the 0Ω resistor between the regulated bus current signal of motor #2 and the same ADC pin. One and only one of R93 and R163 shall be mounted.
  • R107, R179: R107 is the 0Ω resistor between the regulated phase-U current signal of motor #3 and the ADC pin. R179 is the 0Ω resistor between the regulated bus current signal of motor #3 and the same ADC pin. One and only one of R107 and R179 shall be mounted.
  • R109, R191: R109 is the 0Ω resistor between the regulated phase-V current signal of motor #3 and the ADC pin. R191 is the 0Ω resistor between the regulated bus current signal of motor #3 and the same ADC pin. One and only one of R109 and R191 should be mounted.

Power On Switch

  • J6: If J6 is shorted, then all the control circuits are powered on; else if J6 is open, then all the control circuits are powered off.

DC/DC Configurations

  • J4: There are three pins in the J4 header: MODE, VDD, and GND. A jumper should be placed to short the MODE pin and the VDD pin to make DC/DC MIC28515 work in light load mode.
  • J5: J5 should be left open.
