4.5.2 Packs
The Packs feature allows the user to install or uninstall the respective DFP and Tool Packs from
the Pack Manager window.
Pack Manager Window
- Select to open the MPLAB Pack Manager.
- Go to to see the current version of the IPE.
- In the Device Family Pack or Tool Pack
tabs, click Update, Install or
Uninstall versions.Note: The number on the tab reflects the number of new DFPs or TPs.
- Go to the bottom pack locations to see System Packs Location and User Packs Location displayed.
- On opening, MPLAB X IPE will look for updates and installations of packs. The results are shown in the upper right corner of the window.
Installed Pack Locations
Packs are placed in a packs directory of the MPLAB X installation.
For example, in Windows OS: C:\Program Files\Microchip\MPLABX\vx.xx\packs.
Packs may be in a user directory if they are placed after an MPLAB X IPE install.
For example, in Windows OS: C:\User\Microchip\UserName\.mchp-packs.

Work with Packs on the Command Line
A utility is available for working with packs on the command line. For details, see:
C:\Program Files\Microchip\MPLABX\vx.xx\mplab_platform\bin\packmanager
where x.xx
is the MPLAB X IDE version.
