Introduction

Many electronic systems use ICs with different I/O voltage supplies. To communicate with each other, some form of voltage conversion is required. Microchip has a family (SY75706/7/8/9) of ultra-low additive jitter clock buffers that are designed for differential (HCSL, LVDS, LVPECL, etc.) to LVCMOS (1.8V, 1.5V, 1.2V) and a family (SY75701/2/3/4/5) of LVCMOS (3.3V, 2.5V, 1.8V, 1.2V) to LVCMOS (1.8V, 1.5V, 1.2V) voltage conversion fanout buffers.

This application note describes the advantages of using LVCMOS-to-LVCMOS voltage conversion devices (namely SY75701/2/3/4/5) versus some alternative approaches.
