1 WPC Engagement
All companies selling Qi-certified products must be members of the Wireless Power Consortium (WPC). Any product intended to be marketed as Qi-certified must undergo the official Qi validation, testing and certification processes. Products may not claim Qi compliance or Qi certification unless they have successfully completed these required procedures. In addition, manufacturers of Qi-certified products must be in good standing with the WPC.
For Qi 1.3 products that require authentication, additional requirements apply. Any entity intending to manufacture products with authentication must be licensed as a Qi-certified manufacturer. Products requiring authentication must incorporate a Secure Storage Subsystem (SSS) capable of securely storing an ECC P-256 private key. Devices must also be submitted to approved third parties for evaluation to demonstrate security compliance, as defined in the WPC Qi 1.3 authentication specification. A corporation that provisions an SSS must be a WPC Qi-licensed manufacturing Certificate Authority (CA). Microchip offers several products that meet the SSS requirements, including the TA100, and is a WPC-licensed manufacturing CA.
It is the responsibility of the manufacturer to select an SSS from a Qi-certified provider. Additionally, it is the responsibility of the manufacturer CA to verify that the manufacturer remains in good standing with the WPC.
