1.2 WPC – Microchip Development Flow

The following outlines a typical end-to-end development process for customers who are new to the WPC or are designing WPC power transmitters that support Qi 1.3 authentication.
  1. Vendors intending to operate as a Power Transmitter Manufacturer (PTMFG) must become members of the WPC.
    1. Membership requests are submitted via email to: membership@wirelesspowerconsortium.com
    2. Manufacturers may choose either regular membership, which includes committee participation and voting rights, or adopter membership, which grants manufacturing rights and participation in quarterly membership meetings.
    3. The manufacturer must be enrolled in at least the Qi Ecosystem within the WPC.
  2. A PTMFG must obtain a Power Transmitter Manufacturer Code (PTMC):
  3. The PTMFG must sign the “WIRELESS POWER CONSORTIUM, INC. AUTHORIZED MANUFACTURER AGREEMENT”:
    1. A reference copy is available on the WPC website for review by the customer’s legal department.
    2. When ready to sign, a “Company Specific Agreement” may be requested by emailing: membership@wirelesspowerconsortium.com
    3. The request should include your company information, as well as primary contact and signatory information.
  4. The PTMFG expresses their intent to submit a product for certification to the WPC.
    1. The WPC assigns a unique Qi ID to the PTMFG.
    2. A Qi ID may also be reserved in advance by completing the WPC online form.
  5. The PTMFG must notify the WPC via email (membership@wirelesspowerconsortium.com) that Microchip has been selected as the WPC Manufacturing Certificate Authority. The notification must include the associated PTMC and Qi ID.
  6. The customer begins development work using the Microchip TA100.
  7. The customer opens a Microchip SalesForce support ticket requesting provisioned TA100 SSS.
  8. The customer provides the Product Name for their project through the support ticket system. Microchip will use this Product Name to submit a Product Unit Certificate (PUC) on the customer’s behalf. The Product Name and QI‑ID must match the self‑declaration form submitted in the Certification Portal by the member company certifying the product.
  9. The customer provides the PTMC and Qi ID to Microchip through the support ticket system.
  10. Microchip validates the PTMC and Qi ID with the WPC to validate ownership.
  11. Once validated, Microchip generates the appropriate certificates and initiates a certificate signing request with the WPC Root CA.
    1. Prior to the key signing ceremony, Microchip requires the PTMFG’s Qi ID, PTMC and WPC confirmation that the PTMFG is a member in good standing with a signed Authorized MFG Agreement.
    2. The WPC signing process typically requires 3-5 business days, followed by additional processing time by Microchip.
    3. Microchip can provide manifest files for securely provisioned ICs to support device tracking and WPC audit requirements. SFTP credentials may be requested though a Microchip Provisioning support ticket.
  12. After completion of the signing ceremony, Microchip provides a limited quantity of validation units for customer evaluation. Evaluation consists of verifying that the units are programmed correctly and meet all requirements of the customer.
  13. The customer formally notifies Microchip of acceptance of the validation units.
  14. The customer completes all required WPC certification and validation testing.
  15. Upon successful completion, the customer may request full production quantities of provisioned units.
