6 Appendix D. Test Results

A test was performed to characterize the Drone Electronic Speed Controller (ESC) Reference Design. This reference design is configured to operate within a thermally safe and efficient operating region rather than at the maximum electrical limits of the control board. The demonstrated operating range represents a practical propulsion operating point for small-to-medium power drone applications.

A 12V, seven-pole pairs, 980KV, three-phase PMSM Drone Propeller motor with the 9443 propeller was used for testing. Table 6-1 summarizes the test results. Figure 6-1 shows the speed vs input power.
