4 Get the Software
To use code coverage, you will need to acquire the following tools.
MPLAB X IDE
MPLAB X IDE support for viewing code coverage output began with version v5.25, with additional features added in v5.30. In MPLAB X IDE v6.00, code coverage is bundled with other tools under the MPLAB Analysis Tool Suite license. As of v6.35, no license will be needed to access all code coverage features. See [AoU-04-COV].
The IDE may be downloaded for free at www.microchip.com/mplab/mplab-x-ide.
MPLAB XC C Compilers
Code Coverage may be used with any MPLAB XC C compiler that supports full code coverage features without a license. Current MPLAB XC C compiler version support may be found on the compiler download page. See [AoU-02-COV].
MPLAB XC C compilers may be downloaded at www.microchip.com/mplab/compilers.
Supported no-license compiler versions begin with:
- XC8 v4.00, FuSa XC8 v3.19
- XC-DSC v4.00, FuSa XC-DSC v3.39
- XC32 v6.00, FuSa XC32 v5.19
For these compilers, no compiler license is required for PRO features. However, for Functional Safety (FuSa) compilers, FuSa documentation must still be purchased.
For XC16 v2.10, FuSa XC16 v2.09, a universal license that will not expire will be made available free-of-charge in all Microchip accounts. This will provide access to PRO features.
