1 Starting Up the System
Hardware Setup
- Remove the Solar Battery LED Streetlight board
from its ESD package and confirm that there is no shipping damage to the board.
Figure 1-1. Solar Battery LED Streetlight Board - Locate the LED input terminals LED+ and LED- on the upper-left side of the board. Carefully connect an LED array to these terminals, being mindful of input polarity. Note that this board has no reverse-polarity protection on the LED input terminals.
- If using an external LED driver in parallel with the on-board driver, carefully connect the driver to the DRV+ and DRV- terminals, being mindful of input polarity. Note that this board has no reverse-polarity protection on the DRV input terminals.
- Locate the Solar Input terminals +Solar and -Solar on the upper left side of the board. Carefully connect a solar panel to these terminals, being mindful of input polarity. Note that this board has no reverse-polarity protection on the solar input terminals. An external disconnect is strongly suggested for development purposes.
- Locate the +Vbat and -Vbat terminals on the upper right side of the board. Carefully connect a battery to these terminals, being mindful of input polarity. Note that this board has no reverse-polarity protection on the battery terminals. An external disconnect switch is strongly suggested for development purposes.
- Optionally, locate the +Vload and -Vload terminals on the upper right side of the board. Carefully connect a digital load to these terminals, being mindful of input polarity. Note that this board has no reverse-polarity protection on the load terminals. An external disconnect is strongly recommended for development purposes.
- Connect a micro USB cable to the appropriate connection on the left side of the board. This micro USB will be used to transmit both virtual UART and I2C information to the PCB using standard USB interface protocols (such as HID).
GUI Installation
- Download the PC-based GUI from the www.microchip.com website.
- Unzip the downloaded files and place
them in an accessible folder.Note: All included files must be located in the same directory as the .exe file.
