Software

The SAMA5D2 SIP is a member of the SAMA5D2 family and is delivered with a full range of software tools, including the software package with bare metal C code examples and the Microchip Linux distribution.

The SAMA5D2 free softpack consists of microcontroller drivers, software services and libraries. Each software module is provided with full source code, examples of usage, rich HTML documentation and ready-to-use projects for the GNU GCC and IAR EWARM compilers.

Microchip has created and supports a free Linux distribution consistent with the Linux open-source community.

The Linux distribution provides full coverage of SoC peripherals in the Linux kernel as well as bootloaders such as AT91Bootstrap, U-Boot. Cross-build environments such as Buildroot, OpenWrt and distributions from the Yocto Project enable generation of Linux user space applications and customized root filesystems.

For the Linux distribution, Microchip offers the Linux4SAM website (www.linux4sam.org) that provides access to new developments that are reviewed by our Linux mainliners and fully tested on our hardware platforms while waiting to be mainlined. Long-Term Support (LTS) Linux kernel updates are merged regularly with our kernel branch, to provide access to maintenance periods of 2 to 6 years.
