PCB Simplicity, Cost Reduction and Risk Reduction

PCB simplicity, cost reduction and risk reduction are the primary benefits of the SAMA5D2 SIP.

By integrating the DDR2, the SAMA5D2 SIP removes most of the high-speed constraints from the PCB. In the SIP package, very short connections provide for the necessary impedance and delay-matching properties.

As a result, 40 high-speed signals are removed from the PCB. This removal of these signals reduces the electromagnetic emissions of the final application.

These points result in the PCB design simplification and risk reduction.

Additionally, by reducing the routing complexity of the PCB, the SIP achieves PCBs with fewer routing layers.

As an example, a classic six-layer PCB may be executed with only four layers when using the SIP.

Depending on the volume and the PCB dimensions, the PCB cost savings can range from 20% to 40% .
