1.4 5-Bit Data Width May Cause UART Failure at 921600 bps or Higher Without Flow Control
When the 5-bit data width is selected, UART communication without flow control may not operate properly at baud rates of 921600 bps or higher. At these baud rates, the timing requirements for 5-bit framing without flow control exceed the device's capability, which may result in framing errors, data corruption, or a complete loss of UART communication.
Work Around
Enable hardware flow control. With hardware flow control enabled, 5-bit data width operates reliably up to 1152000 bps. The flow control mechanism prevents buffer overrun by pausing the transmitter when the receiver cannot keep up with the reduced inter-character gap of shorter frames.
