1.3 System Requirements

The U-HSM server can run on Windows 7 x64 Pro, Windows 8.1 x64, or Windows 10 x64 operating systems. Server software is installed on a dedicated physical machine with one nShield Edge or Solo HSM module attached.

Note: It is possible to use a virtual machine to run HSM server. However, Microchip has only validated U-HSM server functionality on the nShield Edge module using a VMWare virtual machine. Validation was performed using the nCipher-suggested method of connecting the Edge module directly to the host system and then giving the virtual machine module access through a virtual COM interface added to the host system by the module driver.
