7.4 Recommended Programming/Debugging Tools

Microchip offers a range of programmers, debuggers and extensions to support all device architectures. All solutions, including in-circuit debuggers and programmers, are USB-powered and fully integrated into their respective environments. The MPLAB® Snap In-Circuit Debugger and MPLAB® PICKit® 5 In-Circuit Debuggers are economical choices for basic debugging functionality. Choosing a programmer or debugger depends on the type of development work being performed. The MPLAB® Snap is a low-cost, entry-level programmer/debugger; while the PICKit® 5 is a midrange option with more features than the Snap. The MPLAB® ICD 5 In-Circuit Debugger provides advanced debugging and hardware features suitable for most users and is intended for engineers developing commercial or industrial products.
