4.2 Trust Platform Design Suite (TPDS)

The TS1800-TFLX and the TS1800-TCSM devices are designed for use with the Microchip Trust Platform Design Suite (TPDS), which is available for download on Windows, Linux and macOS from the Microchip website. The TS1800-TFLX/TCSM Configurator within the TPDS provides a streamlined graphical interface for enabling and configuring the various TS1800 trust platform options. The configurator supports both prototyping and production workflows and allows users to program their TS1800-TFLX-PROTO and TS1800-TCSM-PROTO parts for evaluation and testing.

The TS1800 Configurator is a collection of tools and utilities used to generate and provision the cryptographic assets required to evaluate TS1800 Trust Platform devices for specific use cases. It provides a visual overview of supported use cases and configuration parameters, enabling users to generate and provision OTP settings, cryptographic keys, certificate chains, and complete SPI images for internal and external Flash devices.

The base TPDS tools are available as a free download from the Microchip website. Access to the TS1800 TPDS extension packages requires a myMicrochip account and a signed NDA. Separate extension packages are available for the TS1800-TFLX and TS1800-TCSM device families. Both the base TPDS package and the appropriate extension package are required to operate the TPDS tools and generate a complete solution.

Available Packages
To request a TS1800 TPDS extension package:
  • Follow the instructions provided through the Secure Document Extranet via myMicrochip Portal.
  • Navigate to the TS1800-TFLX product page and download the appropriate extension package. If additional flexibility is required, users can transition to the TS1800-TCSM device family and download the corresponding extension package.
: For recommended hardware and software tools and additional technical collateral, refer to the Recommended Tools and Accessories chapter.

Using TPDS

The TPDS tools are continuously updated to expand functionality and support additional use cases. Installation of both the base TPDS package and the appropriate TS1800 extension package is required before use.

To begin development:
  1. Select the TS1800 Trust product you intend to evaluate.
  2. Insert a sample device into the U1 TS1800 socket card.
  3. Install the socket card onto the EV51H13A development board.
It is recommended to begin evaluation with TS1800-TFLX devices to determine whether this product meets application requirements. If additional flexibility is needed, users can transition to the TS1800-TCSM device family.
After launching the TPDS tools, open the TS1800 Configurator and select the appropriate TS1800 Trust product. Before modifying any configuration options, it is recommended that users review one or two demonstration projects to become familiar with the TPDS environment and the available configuration options. Built-in guidance and technical documentation within the tool help users understand the workflow and prepare them to develop their own applications.
Attention: The TPDS tools overwrite the default images programmed into the SPI Flash memories during manufacturing. In addition, the programmed images differ between TFLX and TCSM devices.
