Some of the common technologies available are CMOS (Complementary Metal Oxide Semiconductor), bipolar TTL, GaAs (Gallium Arsenide), and ECL (Emitter Coupled Logic), as well as combination fabrications such as BiCMOS and ECL/bipolar. The faster semiconductor technologies, such as ECL and GaAs, are also more power-hungry. Generally, speed is proportional to power consumption.
