4.4 Polling of Indirect Data

Polling feature is used by the RFD to check any data is pending at the parent side (co-ordinator/PAN coordinator). This is, for instance, helpful if a node is usually in Power-save mode and thus cannot receive direct frames from its parent. The node can then periodically wake up and poll its parent for pending data.

This feature includes the following functionality:

  • Initiation of explicit polling for pending of indirect data (usage of WPAN_MLME_PollReq()/USR_MLME_PollConf())
  • Transmission of data request frames to its parent
  • Reception of indirect data frames
