Description

IEC 60730 is a safety standard for household appliances that address many aspects of both product design and operation. This standard is also referred to by other standards for safety-critical devices, e.g. IEC 60335. System-wide compliance with this standard is necessary for an appliance to be certified as safe to operate.

This application note is a guide to compliance with Annex H of the standard. Annex H deals with requirements for electronic controls. A certified firmware library and usage examples for IAR Embedded Workbench® and AVR® GCC are supplied. The firmware library is designed to cover the most general parts of the standard. How the tests are run, when, and what additional tests might be needed, depends on both the application and implementation choices. In general, a Fault in any part should not cause a hazard.

The Definitions in Annex H of IEC 60730 chapter presents some definitions from the IEC 60730 standard. The Class B Requirements and Component Tests chapters describe the requirements for Class B software. Class B Library for tinyAVR® 1-series introduces the Class B library and the files included for the tinyAVR® 1-series. The Registers, Program Counter, Interrupt Handling, System Clock, Memory, and Analog I/O chapters describe in detail the embedded self-tests in the library. Additional Safety Features in the tinyAVR 1-series presents other safety features included in the tinyAVR® 1-series.
