4 Digital Control Implementation

To monitor, control and protect the Power stage, this design implements digital control running on the single core dsPIC33CK256MP506 Digital Power Plug-In-Module. The control system implemented runs the digital control/compensators on the microcontroller and uses integrated core independent peripherals to monitor and control different parameters of the design. The digital compensators monitor errors in control variables and generate the appropriate control output to minimize the error against the reference value.

Different implementations may be developed using the following control variables:

  • Transformer primary current
  • Combined output inductor current
  • Output voltage

An example project with Average Current Mode Control (ACMC) implementation is available on Microchip’s MPLAB ® Discover.
