6.2.3.13 gethostbyname
The gethostbyname
function is used to resolve a host name
(for example, URL) to a host IP address via the Domain Name System (DNS). This is
limited only to IPv4 addresses. The operation depends on the configuration of a DNS
server IP address and access to the DNS hierarchy through the internet.
After gethostbyname
is called, a callback to the DNS
resolver handler is made. If the IP address is determined, a positive value is returned.
If it cannot be determined or if the DNS server is not accessible (30-second time-out),
an IP address value of zero is indicated.
