2.2.4 BER Test using a Signal Generator

The signal generator can generate the PN31 sequence for the BER test with the telegram structure with preamble, synch pattern and data bits. This generator generates the modulated FM signal at the UWB frequencies with an adjustable output level. The following figure shows the setup for the BER test measurement using a signal generator.
Figure 2-9. BER Setup with a Signal Generator

The signal generator is controlled by a PC application to load the data pattern and to control the output power and signal generation. The ATA8352 DUT receiver is connected to the SPI and GPO signals to a host MCU which is controlled by the PC application.

This setup is used for the automated BER measurement using a UWB reference signal from a calibrated signal generator. It is also used to perform other measurements, such as receiver-blocking characteristics.

Example for measurement equipment:

  • R&S Signal generator SMW200A incl. SMW-B112, SMW-B13XT, SMW-B9, SMW-K515 (optional SMW-K256)
  • R&S Signal analyzer FSW26 incl. FSW-K70, FSW-B512
