Functionality depends on the MMD Function (FNCTN) bits in the MMD Access Control (MMDCTRL) register as specified in IEEE Std 802.3 Annex 22D:
00b= Writing this field sets the offset of the register within the MMD to access01b,10b,11b= When written, the contents are written into the MMD register01b,10b,11b= When read, the contents from the MMD register are returned
