1.2.4 Powering the MCP2222 Using a 5V System Rail (Self-Powered)

Many embedded systems use a 5V rail to power devices. The MCP2222 can be powered from this 5V supply. When powered from a 5V rail, the internal LDO provides 3.3V to the USB transceiver.

For self-powered applications, the VBUS pin must be used to detect the presence of the USB bus. In this configuration, VBUS should be connected to the USB VBUS supply through a 3:2 resistor divider, as shown in Figure 1-3.
