This section lists the menu items in the Tools menu.

Command Action
Analysis Enable analysis tool:
  • MISRA Check (Requires an MPLAB Analysis Tool Suite license.)
    1. Perform a MISRA Check for the selected/main project
    2. Select MISRA Options.
    3. Perform a Threadsafety Check for the selected/main project
  • Code Coverage (Requires an MPLAB Analysis Tool Suite license.) Provides visibility as to what portions of your code are being executed.
  • Compiler Advisor (Requires an MPLAB® XC Compilers, with a PRO license for full functionality.) Displays a graphical comparison of sets with carefully selected available compiler optimizations using project code.
  • Stack Guidance (Requires an MPLAB® XC Compilers.) Provides a compile-time static analysis of the executable meant to guide you to an appropriate worst-case stack usage requirement.
Embedded Visible if a plugin has been added – select the plugin from the submenu.

For example, MPLAB Data Visualizer plugin.
Licenses Manage compiler licenses. For details, see the Documentation tab of the MPLAB® XC Compilers web page.
  • Roam Network Licenses
  • Activate Workstation License.
  • Change Licensing Type
Documentation Manager Opens the 5.9.4 Documentation Manager.
Packs Opens the 14.22 Pack Manager Window to select a versioned device pack for your project device.
Templates Opens the Template Manager window. See 6.4.2 Modify or Create Code Templates.
DTDs and XML Schemas Opens the DTDs and XML Schemas window.
Plugins Opens the Plugins window. See 8.11 Plugin Tools.
Plugins Download

Opens a selection dialog, where you can:

  • Go to Plugins window - Install a plugin immediately from the Available Plugins list.
  • Visit Microchip Gallery - Download a plugin to install later using the Downloaded tab.
Options Opens the Options dialog.

For macOS: Use MPLAB X IDE > Preferences.
