31.5 On-Chip Voltage Regulator

All of the dsPIC33CDVL256MC506 family devices have an internal voltage regulator to supply power to the core at 1.2V (typical).

The voltage regulator power can be controlled by the LPWREN bit in the VREGCON register when LPWREN (VREGCON[15]) = 1. Then, the regulators are put into a lower power mode.

The regulators have Low-Power and Standby modes for use in Sleep modes. For additional information about Sleep, see Sleep Mode. When the regulators are in Low-Power mode (LPWREN = 1), the power available to the core is limited.

Before the LPWREN bit is set, the device should be placed into a Low Power state by disabling peripherals and lowering the CPU frequency (e.g., 8 MHz FRC without PLL). The output voltages of the three regulators can be controlled independently by the user, which provides the capability to save additional power during Sleep mode.
