3.8.1 TX Test Mode
Configure the TX Test mode to transmit only the preamble of the data telegram with
different preamble settings, as shown in the following table. After setting the Test
mode, enable the Transmit mode. The Test mode continues until the device is Reset.
Configuration Bits | Bit Description |
---|---|
A19 Register | |
DIG_TX_OnlyPreamble | = 1 : Continuously transmit preamble only (Test
mode, to exit this mode, a Reset must be applied) |
DIG_TX_Parttern[2:0] | Select preamble pattern:
|
A21 Register | |
DIG_RXPR_TXVR DIG_RXoRXPR_enable DIG_XoX_PRVR DIG_PostAmble_en |
These bits enable: TX mode = |
DIG_PulseLength[2:0] | Pulse repetition rate = 111 |
The TX output power is determined by the A14 TX PA register (A14 – TX PA Register). The
TX power level can be adjusted separately for the data telegram sections (refer to the
ATA8352 Impulse-Radio Ultra-Wideband (IR-UWB) Transceiver User's Guide) with
the following parameters:
- Preamble: txpa_sel_pwr_PA[3:0]
- Sync Word: txpa_sel_pwr_SW[3:0]
- Data Payload: txpa_sel_pwr[3:0]
- Postamble: txpa_sel_pwr_PO[3:0]
The output power can be fine-tuned in steps of approximately ±0.2 dB from the default
setting of 8 with the parameters:
- Preamble: txpa_pac_bias_PA[3:0]
- Sync Word: txpa_pac_bias_SW[3:0]
- Data Payload: txpa_pac_bias[3:0]
- Postamble: txpa_pac_bias_PO[3:0]
The following figure illustrates the curves for the TX average power within the 10 dB
bandwidth boundaries, for a composite bandwidth of 610 MHz with three curves for the
txpa_pac_bias parameters 0, 8 and 15. All curves apply to the same setup for the
preamble, sync word, data payload and postamble.
Note: For measurements regarding regulation requirements, consider the active TX period
within a 1 ms interval; that is, the continuous preamble TX mode must be corrected
to these requirements or the Verifier mode is used when there is no prover device
available in the detection range.
