1.6 Throughput Measurement
(Ask a Question)The fabric logic uses 32-bit counters to count the number of clock cycles in each DMA transfer. The host PC application starts these counters while initiating the DMA transfers, and the fabric logic stops these counters at the end of the DMA transfer. The DMA Engine interrupts the host PC at the end of the DMA transfer and the host PC application reads the counters to calculate throughput as follows:
Throughput = Transfer Size (Byte) × Clock Frequency/Number of clock cycles taken for a transfer
The throughput includes all of the overhead of the AXI, PCIe and DMA controller transactions.
