12.5.2 BM70/71 Module Operation Mode Parameter

The BM70/71 module’s operation mode parameter controls the mode of operation (set of behaviors), the IS187x device exposes to the external host MCU. The Auto Operation mode restricts using the procedures and roles of the IS187x device but automates much of the behavior, requiring very little interaction from the external host MCU. For more details, refer to the Bluetooth Core Specification (4.2). Use this mode with a data pipe, using Microchip’s predefined transparent UART GATT service that meets the requirements of the end user.

The Manual Operation mode allows full control over all the supported roles and procedures, allowing server, client, central and peripheral end user applications to be developed. For more details, refer to the Bluetooth Core Specification (4.2). However, this additional functionality requires a greater level of interaction from the external host MCU. Based on the needs of the application, using Manual Operation mode adds additional memory requirements (more code and data space) to the external host MCU. For more details on the overview of controlling the IS187x device in Manual Operation mode, refer to the BM70/71 Bluetooth® Low Energy Module User’s Guide (DS50002542).
