13.1 Communications Port (DE2 Interconnect)

Open-drain communications node. The DE2 communications is a half-duplex, 9600 baud, 8-bit, no parity communications link. The pin has a minimum drive capability of 1 mA with a VDE2 of ≤50 mV when driving low.

The following configurations are required for successful DE2 communication between the host dsPIC and the MOSFET Gate Driver module:

  • Enable the internal pull-up resistor of port pin RC12 (CNPUC[12] = 1). Doing so before powering on MCP8021 can lead to current sinking through MCP8021’s DE2 pin input impedance to ground.
  • TRISC12 = 1. Essential for PPS input assignments to ensure data from MCP8021 reaches UART RX buffer.
  • PPS assignment of both RX and TX to port pin RC12
