2.2.14 Create/Configure FlashROM

The FlashROM graphical user interface (GUI) enables you to create and configure memory regions within FlashROM. The regions you create can have arbitrary widths, up to a maximum of sixteen words. For each region, you can specify whether the content is Fixed, meaning the value entered in the GUI is fixed, or Modifiable, meaning the content is expected to change in the future.

To define the data stored in a newly created memory region, you must specify the content type, which can be binary, hexadecimal, decimal, or text (character string). You must then enter the corresponding value in the value field.

Note: If you use STAPL files, ensure that the FlashROM region name does not contain illegal characters. The FlashROM Configurator allows region names that may not be valid in the STAPL file language. STAPL identifier names must be no longer than 32 characters, must begin with an alphabetic character, and may contain only alphabetic characters, numeric characters, and the underscore character (_). Identifier names are not case sensitive.

FlashROM can be partitioned into regions, with each region assigned a specific purpose, such as serial‑number storage or version‑number tracking. Use the FlashROM core generator in SmartDesign to create regions within a page, modify existing regions, and assign properties to those regions.

The FlashROM user interface includes a Configuration Grid, a list of existing regions, and a Properties panel. These elements allow you to view, edit, and manage FlashROM regions and their attributes throughout the design cycle.
